Think Negroni, but not really. The Rosita Cocktail is a bittersweet cousin of the popular red gemmed gin cocktail, but instead relies on the earthy flavours of a quality Reposado Tequila. The aged elements of the Mexican spirit lays a different dynamic to a tipple like this. Spirit forward with equal parts Campari, Sweet Vermouth, and Dry Vermouth, its rounded off with a lemon peel for the citrus notes. No fuss and easy to make, its a great Tequila aperitif to swoon over for any occasion.

For this recipe I’ve used Espolòn Tequila Reposado from the Destiladora San Nicholas. The brainchild of Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza, Espolòn Tequila is made of 100% Blue Weber Agave, and the Reposado is aged and rested in new American oak barrels for 3-5 months. Medium to full bodied with a rich roasted agave; sweet tropical fruit, vanilla and brown spices, with a long spicy finish. This makes a perfect star for a Rosita recipe.

Rosita

  • 45ml Espolòn Tequila

  • 15ml Campari

  • 15ml Sweet Vermouth

  • 15ml Dry Vermouth

  • Dash of Angostura Bitters

Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass over ice. Stir and strain into an old fashioned glass over ice. Garnish with a lemon peel. Enjoy!
