A simple recipe for the weekend for those stuck at home (everyone). As you all may know, I usually favor simple recipes that can easily be made in your home kitchen. This riff on an Old Fashioned adds rosemary and smoke to the original recipe.
I use a simple homemade rosemary syrup to help carry the woody flavours of the blended Scotch. The addition of a torch rosemary adds a further smoky element to this Old Fashioned.
Rosemary Old Fashioned
• 60ml Johnnie Walker Gold Label (or Any Blended Scotch)
• 10ml Homemade Rosemary Syrup
• 2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass over ice. Stir. Strain into a glass (ice optional). Garnish with smoking rosemary. Enjoy!
Homemade Rosemary Syrup:
In a pot, add 150ml of water and bring the water to a simmer. Add two sprigs of rosemary and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes. Strain out the rosemary. Then add 1:1 ratio of sugar to the rosemary water and stir till the sugar has dissolved. Let it cool and store the rosemary syrup in a bottle in the fridge.
