A personal twist of mine on the classic Italian aperitif cocktail, the Americano. In the (Coffee) Americano the addition of coffee liqueur adds a complimentary coffee flavor to the bittersweet cocktail. What I liked most about the classic combination of Campari, Sweet Vermouth, and soda water is how easy to drink and refreshing the cocktail is. A perfect before-dinner tipple, it is low-ABV and simple to make at home. I decided to add coffee into the mix, knowing that the Italian spirits pair well with most forms of coffee. Coffee liqueur was a natural choice as to keep the spirit only combinations with only soda water to liven it up.
An important thing to note about the name of the drink is that the spelling of "Coffee" is interchangeable with the language of origin of the coffee liqueur. Paying homage to the coffee liqueur, here are the variations based on some coffee liqueur brands:
Café Americano - Kahlúa (Mexico)
Coffee Americano - Mr. Black (Australia)
Kopi Americano - Nusantara Cold Brew (Indonesia)
(Coffee) Americano
30ml Coffee Liqueur
30ml Campari
30ml Sweet Vermouth
Top up with Soda
Combine the ingredients in a highball glass over ice and stir. Top off the drink with soda water and garnish with an orange slice. Enjoy!
